The Complementary Therapy Association (CTA) was established in 1976. The CTA is a Regulatory body for the Holistic Profession.

In 2003 the CTA Amalgamated with the Complementary Healing Association (C.H.A.)
which is the longest established organisation for Professional Aromatherapists in the world. The C.H.A. is a registered charity and was formed to act as an independent representative body for the profession of aromatherapy. Since its formation, the C.H.A. has been at the forefront of developments within the Hollistic profession and has worked to pioneered the use of Therapies in hospitals, hospices, special care units and general practice. Some C.H.A. practitioners are also practising medical staff. We consistently work hard to set and maintain the highest standards in Holistic Therapies.

The CTA is a not for profit Association. The prime objective of the C.T.A. (UK and Europe) is to establish and maintain Standards of Practice and Ethics relating to the Conduct of all Complementary Therapists and Healers in both Teaching and Practice and their interaction with the public. Also to inform and protect members of the public using Complementary Therapies. We have always believe that aggressive self-regulation is the only way forward and therefore we can agree with some of the content of the House of Lords Report. We do not believe that a federal approach is the right way forward. We believe in the integrity of our Practitioners/Therapist/Healers and continue to monitor their standards. To Join the C.T.A our only requirement is that we will need to be assured that you are working to High Standards or at least to the National Occupational Standards.

The Objectives of C.T.A. shall include:-

Acting as an umbrella group for all Complementary Therapists and Healers in the UK and Europe.

To maintain professional standards for the teaching and practice of Complementary Therapies and Healing in the UK and Europe.

To improving the professional and public awareness of Complementary Therapy and Healing in the UK and Europe.

The Promotion of the Complementary Therapy Association.

To offer Affiliation to the C.T.A. to Schools Therapists, Practitioners and Healers who are prepared to accept the Codes of Conduct and Ethics of the C.T.A and are prepared to uphold those Standards.

To Maintain the European Register for Alternative and Complementary Therapists, Practitioners and Healers the AC Register, which is a Register of Practitioners, Therapists, Healers Schools and Training Centres, who, in the opinion of the register, have proved their competence either through obtaining an approved/recognised qualification or by having undertaken an assessment by the C.T.A. For example search for: Aromatherapy Register, Reflexologist register etc.
The registers Intention is to have one single unifying register for the whole Complementary profession that both the public and the NHS can be assured of the quality of its Practitioners, Therapists and Healers. It also protects the professions themselves as only fully qualified Practitioners, Therapists and Healers, who can demonstrate that they have trained to or attained an accepted level of professionalism. The public can be therefore be assured that the Practitioners, Therapists and Healers on the register Are Insured and have accepted the Complementary Therapy Associations Code of Ethics & Professional Conduct. This register exists to protect the public from Practitioners, Therapists and Healers who are not competent to practice to the agreed standards. The register will also give you credibility to the profession and through being on the register, will give other health professions the confidence to refer patients/clients.

You will receive a Certificate with your unique registration number.
You will be entitled to use the initials "A.C. Reg" after your name,
The Register details will only show your name, area, registration number, telephone number, email address and web site link (if applicable). Although self-regulation is voluntary, it will be a disadvantage to you if you are not on a register as a professional Practitioner,Therapist and Healer
